JIMMY BARNES
Jimmy Barnes, affectionately known by all as Barnesy, is the heart and soul of Australian rock and roll and released his 20th studio album Flesh and Blood in July 2021, which went straight to #1, as dis this year’s Soul Deep 30 anniversary reissue. He has 19 #1 albums under his belt, more than The Beatles, has sold more records in Australia than any other rock and roll artist, and for over 40 years, he has delivered some of our most intense and iconic live performances. He is truly in a league of his own. His third book, Killing Time: Short Stories from the Long Way Home, was released in 2020 and debuted at #1 on the non-fiction book charts, as did its predecessors, Working Class Boy and Working Class Man. Never one to slow down, Jimmy also has penned two books in 2021 – the recently released children’s book, Rosie the Rhinoceros, and a cookbook with his wife Jane titled Where the River Bends.
THE LIVING END
The Living End are considered Australian rock legends, and for good reason. Their blistering live performances have seen them perform far and wide, and their reputation precedes them, they rock from the first note to the last. When The Living End first smashed onto the scene in 1997 with their double-A single Prisoner of Society and Second Solution, they embraced a new Australian sound and fans and critics sat up and listened. Since then, they have released seven studio albums, two of which have debuted at #1 on the ARIA Chart – four of those are Platinum and two are Gold. They have been nominated for an incredible 27 ARIA Awards.
BABY ANIMALS
Baby Animals burst onto the Australian scene in the 1990s with a solid rock force and a sassy lead singer. Suze DeMarchi proved that girls rock just as hard as guys and the Baby Animals soon kicked some impressive rock butt with hits such as Rush You, Early Warning and One Word. The band scored themselves ARIA awards for Best Album and toured the globe. When they split in the mid-1990s they ended a special era of Australian music. This is an opportunity for music fans to see original rock at its best.
THE SCREAMING JETS
Aussie rock doesn’t get much more powerful than The Screaming Jets. With a swag of hits such as Better, Helping Hand, Sad Song, October Grey and Come On under their belt, The Screaming Jets are renowned for their pumpin’ live performances. This year, they also celebrate the 30th anniversary of their iconic release All For One.
SOUTHERN SONS
Southern Sons’ debut ARIA-nominated self-titled album hit #5 on the charts and spawned smash hits Heart In Danger, Hold Me In Your Arms, Always & Forever and Waiting For That Train. The first single, Heart in Danger was released in 1990 and cemented the band as a formidable force in the music scene. They would continue to dominate the charts for the next half a decade.
