Supergrass will return to Australia for 25th Anniversary tour in April/May!
Feb 12, 2020Frontier Touring are thrilled to announce that Britpop legends Supergrass will tour Australia in April and May. This five-date run will be their first headline shows on our shores in twelve years and will coincide with the band’s recently-announced six scheduled performances at Groovin The Moo festivals across Australia.
The exciting news follows the band’s announcement in September 2019 that they were reforming after a ten-year split to tour the United Kingdom, Europe and North America in celebration of their seminal debut album I Should Coco’s 25th anniversary. Just moments before the band’s surprise reunion show at Glastonbury’s Pilton Party in September 2019, frontman Gaz Coombes told NME:
“We’ve had an intense week of rehearsing to get back into the swing and it’s sounding pretty amazing. We just plugged in and started playing, and you just feel those moves that we all play together. It’s like our legs are tied with rope. It’s quite bizarre, but I guess that chemistry never goes away.”
The band’s surprise reunion show was well-received by fans and critics alike, with Evening Standard declaring Supergrass ‘back in action and strong as ever’.
The English rockers will bring their string of hit singles including ‘Lenny’, ‘Going Out’, ‘Richard III’, ‘Pumping On Your Stereo’ and ‘Sun Hits The Sky’ to audiences at Perth’s Metropolis Fremantle, on Monday 27 April, Melbourne’s The Forum on Wednesday 29 April, Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on Tuesday 5 May, Wollongong’s Waves on Wednesday 6 May and The Fortitude Music Hall in Brisbane on Thursday 7 May.
Since forming in Oxford UK in 1993, Supergrass have received nods from the BRIT Awards, NME Awards, Q Awards and Ivor Novello Awards and are widely-recognised as one of the most important bands to emerge during the 1990s. They first broke onto the Britpop scene with their Mercury-nominated UK #1 debut album I Should Coco in 1995, with its fourth single ‘Alright’ catapulting the band to global success.
Five acclaimed studio albums followed - In It For The Money (1997), Supergrass (1999), Life On Other Planets (2002), Road To Rouen (2005), Diamond Hoo Ha (2008) - before the band announced their split in 2010, all going on to lead successful solo careers. To mark the 25th anniversary, The Strange Ones: 1994 - 2008 was released in January 2020.
“I Should Coco stands up on its own as an iconic 90s masterpiece...Its recognisable blend of cordial and crazy sits comfortably as part of a mezze of eccentric oddities. A hugely diverse collection, its charms lie in its unpredictability, with the only consistent factor being the high level of quality.” – BBC UK
“A snappy collection of instantly appealing numbers that combine the tightly scripted songwriting skill of the young Elvis Costello with the brash adrenaline rush of the early Who...” – Rolling Stone
