Ha the Unclear
Auckland based Dunedinites Ha the Unclear create off-kilter, indie pop with a pungent lyrical mix of star gazing absurdism, acerbic social narratives, and distilled home-life landscapes.
The band has toured with and supported the likes of The Dandy Warhols, Courtney Barnett and anti-folk icon Jeffrey Lewis. Pre-empting a new album due for release in 2018, Ha the Unclear recently released the single ‘Big City’. The song narrates a self-conscious public transport journey through Auckland and has been touted by The Revue as "an extraordinary alt-pop song that resonates with the playful brilliance of David Byrne".
Released in 2014, the band’s debut album Bacterium, Look at Your Motor Go received acclaim both at home and internationally with BBC Introducing calling it ‘absolutely bonkers’ and Entertainment Weekly proclaiming it ‘fascinatingly odd’. The album received 4 star reviews in NZ’s Sunday Star Times and The Listener and at the 2016 NZ Music Awards the band received a Tui nomination for Best Music Video for the Simon Oliver directed 'Secret Lives of Furniture'.
