RETURN FOR SYDNEY & MELBOURNE HEADLINE SHOWS

Frontier Touring are excited to announce the long-awaited return of critically acclaimed Austin rock ambassadors Spoon, performing two special headline shows in March. Last on Australian shores back in 2015, Spoon will perform at Sydney’s Metro Theatre on Thurs 23 March and Melbourne’s Croxton Bandroom on Sat 25 March in celebration of their highly-anticipated ninth studio album, Hot Thoughts – released Fri 17 March through Remote Control/Matador.

Britt Daniel (lead vocals/guitar), Jim Eno (drums), Alex Fischel (keyboard/guitar/vocals), Gerardo Larios (keyboards /guitar/vocals), and Robert Pop (bass guitar, guitar, keyboards, backing vocals) will return for their sixth trip to Australia.

“In a career that spans more than 20 years, Spoon has perfected a kind of ruthlessly airtight efficiency: Every few years, the Austin band returns with a new batch of perfectly compact three-minute pop-rock songs. As consistent as it is beloved, Spoon never fails to hit its mark – delivered forcefully, and with hooks for days.” – NPR

“The dynamic new song rises and falls like an orchestral disco opus, with singer Britt Daniel first unleashing a mechanised croon over a simple beat and trembling strings that bursts with a flourish of guitars. ‘Hot Thoughts’ grows vibrant with each peak and closes with Daniel wailing over a euphoric vamp.” – Rolling Stone

Formed in 1993, Spoon immediately made their mark as one of the few modern bands who maintained their trademark hypnotic appeal throughout shifts in sound and tone. They were crowned Metacritic’s ‘Best Music of the Decade’ for the 2000s, thanks to their hugely successful albums, including: Girls Can Tell (2001), Kill The Moonlight (2002), Gimme Fiction (2005), which featured hits ‘I Turn My Camera On’ and ‘I Summon You’, Ga Ga Ga Ga (2007) featuring ‘The Underdog’ and ‘You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb’, and Transference, which brought singles such as ‘Is Love Forever’ and ‘Written In Reverse’.

2014’s They Want My Soul generated similar unanimous raves from fans and critics alike and producing hits such as ‘Do You’ and ‘Inside Out’.

Now all eyes and ears are on Spoon, fans eagerly awaiting their newest album. Hot Thoughts (out 17 March) sees the band returning to label Matador, who released their debut Telephono in 1996. This reversion however doesn’t reflect a return to earlier sound, the band co-producing alongside Dave Fridmann (Flaming Lips, Tame Impala). Title track ‘Hot Thoughts’ representing uncharted territory for the band. Despite radiating a familiar essence, the song weaves a mixture of pop-rock, psychedelic, garage and irresistible rhythms, landing it Consequence Of Sound’s #1 spot in their January Songs Of The Month.

‘Britt’s multi-layered, wailing vocals add an extra layer of electric energy to the already raucous tune and makes it one of their loosest and potent songs in years.’ – The Anchor Point

‘Thinking it a kind of witchcraft that a band can find a brand new audience with each of their eight albums, as well as inspire a new set of definitions around what the band is every time.’ – FasterLouder

Fans are encouraged to act quickly to be amongst the first to hear tracks from new album Hot Thoughts performed live for the very first time. Tickets go on sale next Wednesday!

Hot Thoughts is out 17 March 2017 through Remote Control/Matador.
