U.S. STAND-UP DJ ANNOUNCES SYDNEY COMEDY FESTIVAL SHOW THIS MAY
Frontier Comedy are thrilled to announce the return of American comedian, video editor, writer, and musician Doug Lussenhop aka DJ Douggpound (The Eric Andre Show, Portlandia, Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!) this May. Douggpound will perform his solo show for one night only at the Sydney Comedy Festival.
★★★★1/2 ‘Fun and entertaining...a great mix of comedy and music’ - Media Mikes (US)
‘Funny, silly and quite possibly representative of the collective subconscious of today’s youth culture.’ - LA Weekly (US)
‘Oftentimes unsettling surrealist anti-humour.’ - The Hundreds (US)
A favourite amongst the alt-comedy community, DJ Douggpound has joined Tim and Eric and John C. Reilly’s Dr. Steve Brule on multiple world tours.
Last in Australia supporting Tim and Eric in 2015, the joke DJ and re-mixer will bring his live solo show to Australia for one night only at Factory Theatre on Saturday 13 May for the Sydney Comedy Festival.
DJ Douggpound’s work has regularly featured on The Eric Andre Show and Portlandia, he co-wrote Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie, and his frenetic, breakneck editing and musical genius underpinned Tim and Eric’s Awesome Show, Great Job!
Currently, DJ Douggpound can be seen in the leading role of cult-hit internet series Pound House and heard on his weekly podcast The Poundcast, with notable guests including Natasha Leggero and Mac DeMarco.
In 2015 DJ Douggpound featured in the Adult Swim pilot The Pound Hole, a short film in which he remixes both the audio and visuals of a club into surreal, and sometimes violent, but always danceable situations. The Pound Hole was chosen as one of the Sundance Film Festival’s official short film selections for 2016.
‘DJ Douggpound’s act was dichotomous, gleefully jumping between one-liners so bad they bordered on anti-jokes and loud, knowingly obnoxious shock-jock samples. Every so often a gag was treated to a “remix”, interpolating the punchline with a raucous club beat. Pop hits became pun fodder and earlier punchlines joined the mix, effectively culminating in a mashup of the awkward yellow DJ’s most pointed gags.’ - Cooltry
Despite his frequent collaborations with the professional weirdos, Tim and Eric aren’t the only heavy-hitting comedians that count themselves amongst Douggpound’s fans, with Tenacious D handpicking Dougg to play their epic annual festival of music and comedy Festival Supreme for the past two years where he’s joined comedy heavyweights Flight of the Conchords, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Andrew W.K, Sarah Silverman, Eric Andre, Tim Heidecker and Patton Oswalt.
