Gordi
After a stint writing and working in Tanzania, Gordi relocated to Sydney to pursue her musical career (as well as some sideline studies in medicine). In late 2014, she picked up a lot of attention with her track ‘Nothing's As It Seems’, a luminous pop track that drew comparisons ranging from Angel Olson, Ásgeir, Joni Mitchell and Tallest Man On Earth. The 21 year old artist was quickly added to high rotation on triple j and community radio around Australia and named triple j’s Unearthed Feature Artist earlier this year. ‘Nothing’s As It Seems’ also peaked at #5 on the Spotify Viral Chart, #6 on the iTunes singer-songwriter chart, top 40 in the Shazam Chart (with over 20,000 plays to date), #17 on the Hype Machine Charts and was the 8th most added track to radio around Australia two weeks after release.
With an ethereal, worldly vocal punctuated by wonderful arrangement, her second single ‘Taken Blame’ serves as another offering of what should be a busy 2015 for Gordi. She transformed the shells of demos recorded in her university dorm room in Sydney’s Newtown into dynamic and full-bodied indie-folk songs with the help of Melbourne producer Benjamin McCarthy. The first two singles are tastes of Gordi’s forthcoming EP – tracks that will have you going back for more.
Carry Nation
Carry Nation is Brisbane’s Jessie Warren, who has been casting audiences under her spell for over six years. The Brisbane born, singer-songwriter released her acclaimed debut album Like a River Does and stunning single ‘Whales In Webs’ through El Niño El Niño in early 2010 and has been lauded for her commanding tunes and transfixing live performances.
After performing alongside the likes of Darren Hanlon, Claire Bowditch, Lisa Mitchell and Whitley, Warren quietly put her project on hold to focus on electronic representations of her delicately organic song-craft in Half Shark and more recently as the vocalist of abstract supergroup half/cut. At the request of none other than Ben Lee himself, Carry Nation will re-emerge and join Ben’s east coast tour making these shows a truly special event.
