The Frontier Touring Company is pleased to confirm the return of Matisyahu to Australia this August. His maiden Australian voyage came in 2006 as Matisyahu thrilled fans performing a host of sold out headline shows along the East Coast, capping these off with a performance before thousands at Splendour In The Grass. Support at all shows will come from Snob Scrilla.
In August he will return for a series of intimate performances in Melbourne and Sydney in support of his third album Light (in store August 7 through Sony). Recorded with David Kahne (Paul McCartney, Regina Spektor) across Jamaica and the USA, Light sees Matisyahu blend infectious melodies with classic messages of hope, peace and understanding, creating a sound that is undeniably his own.
The first offering from Light has come in the form of single ‘One Day’. An inspirational reggae infused song, ‘One Day’ sees Matisyahu return at his best. These days, lyrics rich in content can be hard to find, yet it is this accompanied by the sounds of Bob Marley melded with Shlomo Carlebach, that make Matisyahu so wholly original and exciting.
On stage, Matisyahu’s performances are uplifting and powerful. Even the most pessimistic of his audience will be inspired by his ability to so honestly convey such delicate topics as faith and spirituality. It is his dedication to his belief and openness to others that compels one to respect his artistry and messages. It’s in that fleeting moment when our skepticism melts and our souls open up, that Matisyahu enters with his booming sound of faith.
Matisyahu’s debut tour of Australia saw attendees converted by his unique musical outlay. “…it was obvious why the man has such a killer live reputation,” Beat Magazine declared, while Drum Media were in awe of his performance, “Matisyahu’s ability as a freestyle rapper is uncontested”.
Snob Scrilla will warm the stage at all shows as he plays tracks from his impressive debut album Day One (in store now through Ivy League). A hip hop dance hybrid, Day One has been embraced by fans and critics alike, spawning radio favourites ‘There You Go Again’, ‘Chasing Ghosts’ and ‘Heartbreak Scorsese’. Snob Scrilla will make the trek from his base in the USA to Australia to open these shows.
Matisyahu is an artist worth watching. Don’t miss your chance when tickets go on sale Tuesday 30 June.
