Three years since their last trip Down Under, The Frontier Touring Company are thrilled to announce the return of Brit-pop favourites, Ash, to our shores this August. In addition to their Splendour In The Grass appearance, Ash will also play intimate shows in Melbourne and Sydney.
June 30 marks a milestone release for Ash. Twilight of the Innocents (Warner Music) – their sixth studio album – has been confirmed by the band to be their last album release. After this album, the band will release digital singles. The singles will be recorded in their home studio and sporadically released on compilation CDs. It's this foresight and reaction to the fast-changing music scene that helps Ash remain at the forefront of music, 15 years since they first formed.
Twilight of the Innocents has been heralded as some of Ash's finest work to date. Reverting to their original three-piece line up, Ash are at the top of their game. The album's lead single 'You Can't Have It All' drew comparisons to Muse, with NME describing their new single as feeling "…like being catapulted to Mars strapped to an exploding sweetshop. Superb." The praise didn’t stop there, however, as they also threw their support behind second single 'Polaris,' declaring: "It is plain and simple, Ash make great pop songs… Ash are back on form, and long may it continue."
Ash's last sojourn Down Under saw them set their stages on fire (literally!). Of their last Splendour In The Grass Appearance, inthemix.com.au wrote: "Award for 'best stage entrance' must go to vocalist/guitarist Tim Wheeler, taking to the stage with his Gibson Flying V hoisted far above his head on fire."
A recent performance left Drowned In Sound raving: "…it's enough to send almost everyone home content with tonight’s back-to-basics performance, convinced that Ash still have what it takes."
With a career spanning 15 years thus far, there's no doubt that Ash are one of today’s most accomplished live acts. Q magazine once named them the #2 in a list of the "50 Bands To See Before You Die". When Ash return Down Under for these intimate shows, you should get in fast to avoid disappointment and ensure you're able to take Q’s advice and see this band live.
