Honesty, hope & heartbreak feature in the poetry-laced music of The Lathums. Everything sung from the heart, four young men from an overlooked town in England’s north gathered as teenagers without ego or expectation and set about changing the lives of the people that gathered around them.
Under no influence yet emerging into long shadows cast by comparisons to The Smiths and Arctic Monkeys, The Lathums lit up the world with two consecutive UK No.1 albums - How Beautiful Life Can Be (2021) and From Nothing To A Little Bit More (2023) with the band releasing their third studio album Matter Does Not Define earlier this year, debuting at No.3 on The Official UK Albums Chart.
Matter Does Not Define was written by the band, comprised of Alex Moore (vocals / rhythm guitar), Scott Concepcion (guitars, piano and vocals) Ryan ‘Duz’ Durrans (drums) and Matty Murphy (bass and vocals), in their native Wigan before recording at Kempston Street Studios, Liverpool. They completed their new masterpiece of equally introspective and pulse-quickening indie in the company of both good friend and old college tutor John Kettle and producer, Chris Taylor.
The Lathums catalogue of hits include ‘Heartbreaker’, ‘Long Shadows’, ‘Reflections Of Lessons Left’, ‘Stellar Cast’, ‘No Direction’, ‘Fight On’, ‘The Great Escape’, ‘All My Life’, ‘Up The Junction’, ‘Sad Face Baby’, ‘Say My Name’ and ‘Struggle’.
‘The Lathums most personal and honest record to date.’ – NME
‘Full of little touches and flourishes which showcase their maturity, ‘From Nothing To A Little Bit More’ emphatically proves that The Lathums are here to stay.’ - Clash
‘It looks as if Wigan’s biggest musical export since The Verve are about to get even bigger” – Daily Mail
On the live front, The Lathums have toured with The Killers, Louis Tomlinson and played a whole run of festivals including SXSW, Glastonbury, Leeds / Reading, Neighbourhood Weekender to name a few and have had support from the likes of Brandon Flowers (The Killers), Matt Helders (Arctic Monkeys), Miles Kane, Blossoms and more. The Lathums have proved themselves to be a band for all times and all people.
Propelled by the power in their songs and the sense of community fostered amongst loyal fans, see what all the fuss is about when The Lathums perform live in Australia for the very first time this October!
