Spiderbait announce opening acts for national Black Betty 20th Anniversary Tour - kicking off this month!
5 Aug 2024Iconic Aussie rockers Spiderbait are gearing up to hit the road on their national Black Betty 20th Anniversary Tour this month. Kicking off at Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall on Tuesday 13 August, the band takes in an epic twelve dates across the nation through August, September and October to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of their seminal 2004 album, Tonight Alright and standout track, ‘Black Betty’.
Today, they reveal local opening acts to join the tour in each city, alongside already-announced supports Polish Club, Adalita, Private Function and Abbe May (on select dates).
In Brisbane, dynamic five-piece Worm Girlz will warm audiences on the tour’s first night. Adelaide will feature psych-rockers Pelvis, with Liquid Nails in Hobart and Grinding Eyes joining the party in Newcastle and Wollongong. Zerodent and Lonesome Dove will open in Perth on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 September respectively, as Destrends perform at Melbourne’s Forum on Thursday 19 September and The Vovos and Electric Stardust take in Friday 20 September. Tumbleweed’s Richie Weed will bring the good vibes to Sydney’s Enmore Theatre, Rubypark opens for Gold Coast audiences and Canberra’s Box Dye wrap things up in the nation’s capital on Friday 25 October.
“We always try to make the support bands an important part of the whole experience for the audience and also for the musicians. There are so many great bands and emerging musicians in Australia, this is a great way of supporting those acts, so people can see and experience them live.
It’s a bit of a responsibility for us when it’s our own show and we can select the bands we want to have on the lineup. Sometimes we may not have seen them play, but we like their story, and it’s always something we try to do whenever we tour. This idea is a great way to feel that wonderful feeling of seeing someone play that you might not have seen before. We’re really excited about all the amazing local talent that will be joining us on this tour”, says Kram.

Recorded in California, Spiderbait’s Tonight Alright (2004) leant into the hard rock sound of the early-2000’s. The album debuted at No.14 on the ARIA Album Chart that year and featured the band’s most popular song to date, ‘Black Betty’. Defying age and genre, ‘Black Betty’ arrived fifteen years into the band’s storied career. The song continued to climb the charts after release, reaching the top of the ARIA Singles Chart two months after its debut and hitting the US Top 40 Rock Chart.
To celebrate Tonight Alright, Spiderbait have issued the album on vinyl for the first time. Out now, the 20th Anniversary edition arrives on limited edition red vinyl, with alternative artwork, imagery and an alternate version of the single, ‘Tonite’. Get the vinyl HERE.
Additionally, the band has announced an innovative digital EP, Bunch Of Bettys. Over the coming months, the band will treat fans to alternative, previously unreleased versions of their chart-topping hit ‘Black Betty’. Starting from Monday 12 August, Spiderbait will drop a stripped back acoustic version of the song (ACOUSTIC BETTY); followed on 23 August by a hyper techno fuzz version (FUZZY BETTY), with a recently discovered live version from 2004 (LIVE BETTY) dropping on 9 September.
The suite will be complete with the full four track EP Bunch Of Bettys on 20 September, when the original version joins the collection; a song that has now reached over 300 million streams around the world 20 years after its release. Bunch Of Bettys will be available globally on all digital platforms.
Renowned for their dynamic on-stage energy, Spiderbait are without doubt one of the country’s most beloved live acts. With a catalogue of music that’s distinctive and uncompromising, Spiderbait’s anticipated Black Betty 20th Anniversary Tour will see the band playing their greatest hits and celebrating their greatest hit of all, together with an incredible lineup of local talent in each city. Don’t miss out!
