Thrust into the thick of hip-hop at a young age, it is no wonder GZA rose to fame as one of the most promising rappers of this generation. GZA grew up in New York, jumping between boroughs, ultimately leading to his informal education in rap.
A member of history-making, hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan, GZA also saw success as a solo artist, becoming the only member to release a solo album prior to the group's formation. His critically acclaimed 1995 album Liquid Swords went on to become platinum certified after peaking #9 on Billboard 200 album chart. Breaking the boundaries of hip-hop, the rapper and talented wordsmith continued to create projects that shook up the hip-hop scene and continued to release tracks which fans know and love today.
Though no stranger to accolades and awards, GZA remains down to earth, and community minded. In more recent years, he has graced the lecture halls of Harvard, NYU and MIT, providing lectures on the globalisation of hip-hop, as well as promoting his urban science initiative ‘Science Genius.’ Through encouraging STEM studies to high school students in lower socioeconomic areas, GZA hopes to increase high school retention rates throughout the US.
GZA’s passion for chess, strategy and quantum physics has led to some of the most distinguishable work of this era. With a penchant for lyrics that cut deep, GZA’s work has become a timeless masterpiece, imprinting himself as one of the hip-hop greats.
